Caught In A Snow Storm
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Avery is about to be married as she is very naive and always does as she is told!! But for some reason something seems’off’ and whilst snooping she realises that she is merely a pawn in a business transaction between her father and husband to be so she takes his car and does a runner. The weather isn’t good and she crashes the car in a snow storm on a mountain side. Meanwhile, further down the mountain we see jack, an ex military man who has retired and is keeping away from the rest of the world in his cabin. He hears a crash and runs up to discover what has happened. he finds Avery in the mangled wreck covered in blood with her dress torn and obviously going to be badly bruised. Without checking for terrible injuries, he picks her up and carries her to his cabin and, instead of treating her wounds etc as most people would do, he just lays her on his couch and puts a blanket over her – blood and all! I normally read books that have been written by Vivien Vale and another author and have enjoyed the stories finding them to be well written and very plausible. This book there were moments when I stopped and thought “What??” for example, why didn’t Jack check her for injuries?? Why did she, a naive virgin, demand that he take off her clothes and burn them whilst she stopped stark naked in front of him a virtual stranger?? Things like that didn’t make the story flow as I would have expected. having said that, I did enjoy the rest of the story as it was a chit-lit story with passions being played out. There were some twists in the story regarding her fiancée and Avery’s life is put in more danger. Overall it was well written and is an entertaining read but because of those ‘odd’ moments I have to give it four instead of five stars.
