AVOID
This is the latest story by Lauren Wood and unfortunately I thought the dialogue was very stiff and some parts of the story really either unbelievable or what a totally stupid ‘heroine’ Candy must be! It is not the book for me as I don’t like reading about cheating and this story is inundated with it. Colt and Candy met in a bar in Las Vegas where she is with her friend who is getting married. They marry each other but the next day he wakes up with her gone but her wedding ring not on her finger but on the bed. So she must realise she is married when she woke up and wondered why she had a wedding ring on her finger to then take it off surely? Wouldn’t a rational person with any intelligence realise that something had happened they should know about instead of just taking the ring off and fleeing and then claiming she knew nothing about it? But no..it’s supposedly only when she is at the altar marrying Jax that she ‘discovers’ that she is already married? Memory not very good perhaps? But then we have Colt, her husband a native of Las Vegas and solicitor there. He knows that he is married to her but has basically spent just about every night of over seven years committing adultery by having one night stands? He doesn’t always wear a condom so he must be riddled with disease. He then allegedly wants a real marriage with her? If he’d been that keen why wait seven years? Why sleep with thousands of other women if he thinks marriage is so important? Now some will say I’m being naive to think cheating doesn’t happen. Not true I know that it happens but I don’t like to read it glorified as, I’m so sorry to say, it is in this book. Spoiler alert – which I don’t normally do – but the ending just does not make sense with her solicitor doing what her mother says when Candy is supposed to be the client?? Is Candy a pushed around mouse? She doesn’t seem like it otherwise. I normally love Lauren’s stories but this one just did not work and seemed disjointed and as for Jax he obviously wans’t that upset that her divorce didn’t take place. Then there is the issue of grammar – it really needs to be gone over very carefully and have a major overhaul to correct all the mistakes.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Sorry just not for me as there are too many grammatical errors, too much cheating and the characters just don’t seem to be a couple apart from s@x. Really disappointed as I was looking forward to this book and hate leaving a negative review.
